Most of these fail because the birthday is missing, the app was opened too late, or there was no prior purchase. Practical rule every 2026 list repeats: sign up 30 days before your birthday month and put the birthday on the profile.

Starbucks official: join at least 7 days before. Chick-fil-A official: enter birthday at least 24 hours ahead or you wait a year. IHOP official terms: 7 days. Krispy Kreme lists: about 4 weeks. Use a dedicated freebie email if you want.

Birthday must be on file
Official Starbucks, IHOP, Chipotle, Chick-fil-A, Red Robin, Dunkin’, and Nothing Bundt Cakes all say no date of birth means no reward. Changing a birthday later is often blocked or support-only.

Expect a gate, then scan the app
Prior purchase or activity is common even when the item itself is “free.” Redemption is almost always digital. Dutch Bros official: ID alone is not enough. Airport, stadium, and licensed stores often do not honor rewards.
